Roctool is a mold induction heating technology developed by a French company from the foothills of the Alps. It allows almost identical tool surface replication. Thus this is one of the most advanced Heat & Cool injection processes in the market and can be seen at our Technology Center on the KraussMaffei GX 451 injection machine!
Roctool technology – How does it work?
The company’s specific product is induction heating of molds. This allows the shape of the mold to be heated to a temperature close to the transition region of the plastic. Thus this temperature is the key to achieving the desired effect – high gloss and mold surface replication of up to 97%. In conventional molds, the surface replication is only about 50%.
The shaped part of the mold is that which directly touches the injected material. The mold surface is then replicated on the material during cooling. The quality of the surface of a plastic part depends on a number of factors – surface quality, shape of the mold, material, heating and cooling method. Roctool addresses all of the above.
Thanks to Roctool technology plastics have never looked better. High gloss, detailed texture and no surface defects are a matter of course. Products created using this technology can be found already today – for example covers of design coffee makers, ports of Apple devices, or the interior parts of your new Porsche Panamera (however not the 2016 or older models).
